Prayer does hurt it. Hearing the right prayer literally burns it from the inside-out. And if you don't already know how to use guns or a sword, it's probably the easiest to learn how to do.
Unless you already know how to shoot or stab things? Then it's a matter of getting you the right weapon. And you're still gonna want to know the prayers anyway, as backup.

The main ingredient is nightshade, though the exact plant from the nightshade family would vary depending on the general health of the person. Nightshade is poisonous to humans too, so it's gotta be strong enough to get the snake without doing anything more than making the human ill. Usually the stems of tomatoes are used for that.
Next you need a small bit of charcoal, made from the wood of an ash tree.
Finally, you need the water from the inside of an Optunia cactus. You'll need at least 6 cups of it, and you have to grind up the cactus and squeeze out the water to get enough, so about 3 kilograms of cactus should be enough. Less, if you get a bottom section of it which has liquid in it that you can just pour out.
